Whatever goes in
the drawer becomes real

Emily and Charlotte inherited a wardrobe. It came with a peculiarity: whatever you place in the small drawer at the bottom becomes a world you can step into. Old postcards from Paris. A paperback copy of Alice in Wonderland. A video cassette of Night of the Living Dead — which they put back immediately and did not discuss further.

Their dog Bodger has no concept of this rule and no intention of learning it. Each episode is a complete adventure of its own — the only thing connecting them is the wardrobe, the sisters, and whatever Bodger has gotten into this time.

Who’s in the story

Emily
Emily
The younger sister

Always up for an adventure. When the wardrobe opens onto somewhere new, Emily is already halfway through. She is the reason most of their stories happen and the reason most of them end well.

Charlotte
Charlotte
The older sister

A little more buttoned down, which is useful when someone needs to stay calm and think clearly. She would prefer to plan. She rarely gets the chance. She goes anyway, because Emily is already through the wardrobe.

Bodger
Bodger
The dog

Has no understanding of the wardrobe and no interest in developing one. Puts things in the drawer. Does not see why this is a problem. Has accidentally sent a cat to Paris. Is largely unrepentant.

Episode One
Start of Summer

The sisters are bored. Then someone puts the Night of the Living Dead in the wardrobe drawer, and the wardrobe opens onto a world that is very much not boring. They look at it for a long moment. They close the wardrobe. They do not speak of it again.

A New Leaf

This time they choose deliberately. A paperback copy of Alice in Wonderland goes into the drawer. The wardrobe opens onto exactly what you’d expect — and also onto some things you wouldn’t. They step through. It goes reasonably well.

Episode Three
The Chase

Bodger puts the cat in the drawer. Old Paris postcards were already in there. The cat is now in Paris, circa 1920, and is not coming back on its own. The sisters have no choice. The cat, for its part, seems to be managing perfectly well.
