Piper has gotten by far my most elaborate set – furniture, stepping stones, little odds and ends. And lighting! she’s got lighting like no other doll before her. And yet, it still looks pretty funky.

See what I mean? I built that fence by hand – clipped the dog ears, painted each piece, glued it together. But, all you see is that big blank wall behind it. And I *tried* to cover that wall at the other end with ivy and big artificial branches. But, really, they just look like ivy and artificial branches. Yes, I could build realistic 1/4 scale trees, I guess, but that’s yet another big project that cuts into the very short dry shooting season here in Oregon. So I’m calling it “good enough” and moving on. I’m mainly doing macro shots and the set looks great in those – the little pieces are all really nice. It’s the world-building where it gets jerry-rigged around the edges.
I asked Firefly to fill in that white wall, and it did a pretty good job.

Oddly, while it’s great if I crop the top of the image and then drag it to generate expand, it’s really terrible if I just select the white and suggest it fill it with trees. Here’s a truly awful attempt where it insisted on showing the white wall everywhere.

so, anyway, expand rather then generate if you don’t want it to use the color and vibe of the area you’re replacing.
The good news is that I’m *almost* finished with this esisode and then it will be time to send my posse of kids into the woods and see how far instinct (winnie) and a compass (Piper) will get them.
